Versace – A Brief Look At History And Present
Versace is an Italian fashion house that was founded in 1978. Its designs are opulent and grandiose in the best possible way. Versace created two of the most memorable dresses in recent fashion history. Jennifer Lopez's instantly iconic green dress with the deep V-neck from the 2000 Grammy awards was a Versace, as was Elizabeth Hurley's safety pin dress from the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere in 1994. Elton John is a major fan of the label. Versace is the favored fashion house of celebrities who want to make major statements with single garments. It is a purveyor of old-fashioned glamour, and it is quite telling that Lady Gaga cites Versace as her favorite fashion label.

Gianni – The Man Behind Versace

Gianni Versace enjoyed an active nightlife, and this was reflected in the spirit of his designs. He contributed original designs to films and stage productions; he did not have to stretch in order to infuse his work with theatricality. He began designing clothing when he was 26 after dabbling in architecture. His first major job in fashion had him designing leather pieces for Complice. Leather and architecture’s inspired structure became the trademarks of his work. Sadly, Gianni died in 1997 at the age of 50 after being shot on the grounds of his Miami Beach home. His sister Donatella succeeded him as the head of the Versace house

Versace – Summer’s Prêt-à-Porter Collection

This summer's ready-to-wear collection is lighter and fresher than past Versace collections although the clothes are still undeniably Versace. The white leather garments are structured and studded. They combine angelic innocence with the toughness of a biker gang. Some of the dresses are adorned with images of mermaids and seashells in cloudy shades of blue. Even though this collection is uncharacteristically soft, it is still undeniably a Versace creation. The sense of fun that is sometimes obscured by goth trappings is front and center this summer. Versace is rarely this overtly gentle and feminine.
